SCALE 5x, the 2007 Southern California Linux Expo will be held in Los Angeles, CA this weeken On Feb 9-11, 2007. It will include: 50+ seminars, 70+ exhibitors, BoFs, and more. Highlighted speakers will include Chris Dibona, Don Marti, Ted Haeger, Jono Bacon, and others. Exhibitors include: Dell, IBM, Verio, Redhat, GroundWork Open Source, ReactOS, Haiku OS, and PostgreSQL. Preparing for its 5th annual event, SCALE 5x, the Southern California Linux Expo has issued a call for papers. SCALE 5x will be held on Feb 10-11, 2007 at the Los Angeles Airport Westin. Past speakers have included Chris Dibona, Jon "maddog" Hall, and Andrew Morton. This NewScientist article discusses a project Deb Roy from the MIT Media Lab has setup to monitor his newborn son from birth through three years of age. It is hoped that by capturing much of his son's stimuli with audio & video recorders, new insights can be gained into the language acquisition process.

"The Architecture of Language" is an international conference focussing on the brain aspects of language functioning. The aim of the meeting is to rethink the global architecture of language by combining data from functional exploration of the brain with proposals from the linguistic and cognitive science, thus favouring the interdisciplinary dialog. It will be held at Scuola Normale Superiore & University of Pisa, Italy, June 8-10,
